Matchless Mine
The Matchless Mine is a historic silver mine near Leadville, Colorado. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is part of the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum.
Horace Tabor bought the mine in September 1879, and it helped him become wealthy. His wife, Baby Doe Tabor, later lived in a cabin beside the mine. She lost the mine in 1927 when it was sold to pay a debt, but the new owners allowed her to stay in the cabin.
In the winter of 1935, after a snowstorm, neighbors noticed no smoke coming from the cabin. They entered and found Baby Doe dead, frozen on the floor.
