Arctic Midnight Orienteering
Arctic Midnight Orienteering (AMO) is a yearly orienteering event in Ilulissat, Greenland, usually held in the last week of June. Over four days, participants run 3–4 races, including the unofficial North Greenland championships in classic orienteering, a sprint, and an Extreme Race with distances of about 5, 10, 15, or 20 km in demanding terrain. The maps cover about 15 square kilometers, drawn at 1:10,000 to 1:15,000 scale with 5 m contours and a 32° magnetic declination. Expect the midnight sun, open views of the ocean, bays, islands, and many icebergs, along with clean air and temperatures around 5–15 °C and about 30 mm of rain per month. The event is organized by Ilulissat Orienteering Greenland (IOG) and has been held every year since 1999.
