Arctic Bay Airport
Arctic Bay Airport (IATA: YAB, ICAO: CYAB) is a small private airport operated by the Government of Nunavut. It sits about 3 nautical miles (5.6 km) southeast of Arctic Bay, Nunavut, Canada, at an elevation of 72 feet (22 meters) above sea level. The airport is in the Eastern time zone (EST/EDT).
The facility has one gravel runway, 13/31, 3,935 feet (1,199 meters) long.
In 2010, the old 1,500-foot runway was decommissioned and replaced with a longer runway and a new terminal. The new runway was built to the south of the old site. On January 13, 2010, First Air transferred scheduled services from Nanisivik Airport to Arctic Bay, with routes to Iqaluit and Resolute Bay. Local mayor Niore Iqalukjuak said this would save residents about $40 on a one-way taxi ride, and the government said it would save about $600,000 per year by not having to keep the all-weather road clear.
Today, Arctic Bay Airport serves general aviation and small turboprop aircraft.
