Archenhold School
Archenhold School is a public high school in Berlin, Germany, in the Treptow-Köpenick district. It teaches students in grades 7 through 12. The motto is “Fit for the University.” The school has about 50 teachers and around 700 students. The principal is Michael Uhlig (since 2005). It has three buildings: the main building, an extension with science rooms, and a gym. The school works with partner schools in France and Denmark — Lycée Aux Lazaristes in Lyon and Frederiksborg Gymnasium in Hillerød.
The building was constructed from 1914 to 1921. Over the years it has had many names, reflecting the times. It was used as a military hospital and by the Red Army after World War II. In 1959 it became a Polytechnic Secondary School for grades 1–10. An extension with three levels was added in 1965. In 1971 it was named 7. Oberschule “Feliks E. Dzierzynski.” After German reunification the name changed again. From 1989 to 1991 the building was renovated, and in 1992 it was renamed Archenhold-Oberschule, honoring the astronomer Friedrich Simon Archenhold and its nearby observatory.
Today the school is called Archenhold School and is divided into three buildings.
