Apocalipse
Apocalipse is a Brazilian telenovela produced for RecordTV. Created by Vivian de Oliveira, it’s based on the Book of Revelation and is RecordTV’s fourth biblical telenovela. The story aired from November 21, 2017 to June 25, 2018 and has 155 episodes. It was filmed in locations including Jerusalem, New York City, Rio de Janeiro, and Rome.
The show begins in the late 1980s with four young people who go to New York for university: Alan Gudman, Susana Aisen, Adriano Montana, and Débora Koheg. They become close friends. Alan and Susana share a tender romance, while Adriano and Débora have a passionate but troubled marriage. As the first part of the series unfolds, new characters appear and the lives of the group intertwine.
In the second phase, set in 2001, Adriano and Débora return to New York with their son Ricardo and reconnect with their old friends and their children, Benjamin and Isabella. Débora grows suspicious of Susana’s happiness, and apocalyptic prophecies begin to spread across the world, with significant events tied to cities like Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Jerusalem, and New York and including references to the September 11 attacks.
The third phase moves to the present day, showing how the biblical prophecies shape the characters’ lives. Ricardo becomes the Antichrist, using scientific discoveries from his childhood friend Benjamin—who is a brilliant scientist and married to Zoe Santero, Benjamin’s childhood love—to seize power and tyrannize others. Some people repent and turn to Christ before it’s too late, while others, seeking short-term comfort, choose to worship evil.
Production began in July 2017, with filming starting in August. The cast initially included Guilherme Winter, who was later replaced by Igor Rickli. Promotional videos began airing in November 2017, and a press conference was held on November 16, 2017. The show’s opening theme is Adágio em G Menor, and the drama explores themes of faith, hope, pain, and the struggle between good and evil.
