Anthony Lazzaro (racing driver)
Anthony Lazzaro (born August 26, 1963) is an American racing driver from Charleston, South Carolina. He is best known as a road-course specialist, but he has competed in NASCAR, IndyCar, and a wide range of sports-car events.
Lazzaro started in karting, winning many World Karting Association championships between 1987 and 1992. He moved up to open-wheel racing and claimed the Olds Pro Series win in 1993. He reached a peak in open-wheel racing by becoming the Toyota Atlantic champion in 1999, with multiple race wins.
In stock car racing, Lazzaro competed in the ARCA series and later made starts in NASCAR’s Busch Series (now Xfinity) in 2000 with PPI Motorsports. He also raced in the NASCAR Cup Series and the Indy Racing League in 2001–2002, with a best IRL finish of ninth.
In sports cars, Lazzaro has notable achievements. He won the GT3 class at the 1999 24 Hours of Daytona driving a Porsche 911. He had success in the American Le Mans Series with Ferrari and Risi Competizione, including a GT-class win at Lime Rock Park in 2004 and an early Le Mans appearance in 2003. He returned to endurance racing in 2013, earning podiums in the LMP2 class of the ALMS with Extreme Speed Motorsports and competing in the Rolex Sports Car Series.
In 2014 he switched to the SCCA World Challenge, driving a Ferrari 458, continuing a long and varied racing career across many different disciplines.
