Andrew Peshko
Andriy Peshko, born Bohdan Peshko on April 27, 1972, in Hriada, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine, is the Bishop of Toronto and the Eastern Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada.
Education and early studies
- Attended St. Petersburg Theological Seminary (graduated 1993).
- Studied at Christ the Savior Theological Seminary in Johnstown, Pennsylvania (1994–1995).
- Completed the Kyiv Theological Academy (1995–1999).
- In 2000, Kyiv Theological Academy awarded him the Candidate of Theology degree after he defended a dissertation on rites of installation and ordination in the Orthodox Church.
Ordination and monastic life
- Ordained a deacon on April 8, 2001, by Archbishop Vsevolod (Maidansky) of Scopelos in Chicago.
- Elevated to protodeacon on September 29, 2003.
- Tonsured a monk and given the name Andriy on September 21, 2005.
- Ordained a hieromonk on September 25, 2005 and later became a hegumen.
- Elevated to archimandrite on October 21, 2005.
Episcopal service
- Consecrated a bishop on December 13, 2005, at St. Volodymyr Cathedral in Chicago.
- In 2008, elected Bishop-elect of Saskatoon (Vicar of the Central Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada).
- On February 1, 2011, became the bishop of the Eastern Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada.
- On May 19, 2021, elected Bishop of Toronto by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
- On August 31, 2021, officially accepted the election at the Phanar.
