Emmanuel Adebayor is a retired Togolese footballer who played as a forward for the Togo national team from 2000 to 2019. He won the Togolese Footballer of the Year award five times and scored 32 international goals in 87 FIFA-recognised appearances, making him Togo’s all-time top scorer. He surpassed the previous record of 13 goals held by Kossi Noutsoudje on 7 February 2007 in a match against Cameroon. Adebayor debuted for Togo on 8 July 2000 in a World Cup qualifier against Zambia, and he scored his first international goal more than two years later against Mauritania in Lomé.

His only international hat-trick came in a 6–0 World Cup qualifier win over Swaziland (Eswatini) on 11 October 2008, when he scored four goals in the game. He helped Togo reach their first FIFA World Cup in 2006 in Germany, where he played in all three group matches against South Korea, Switzerland and France but did not score, and Togo finished last in the group.

Adebayor scored one goal in the Africa Cup of Nations, seven in Africa Cup of Nations qualification, and six in FIFA World Cup qualification. The remaining five goals came in friendlies. His most productive calendar year was 2005, when he scored five goals in ten games for "The Sparrowhawks."

He scored his final international goal in March 2019 against Benin and retired from football in 2023 at age 39. Over a 22-year career, he became a Togolese legend and is regarded as one of the greatest African footballers of his generation.
