Andreas Münzer
Andreas Münzer (1964–1996) was an Austrian professional bodybuilder known for having extremely low body fat. He appeared in Flex magazine twice and Muscle Magazine International once. He looked up to Arnold Schwarzenegger and even met his idol at the Arnold Classic in 1996.
During his career, Münzer used many performance-enhancing drugs, including steroids and strong diuretics that affected his potassium levels. These drugs may have helped cause his health problems and death.
After months of stomach pain, he was admitted to hospital on March 12, 1996. Doctors planned surgery to stop the bleeding, but his liver and kidneys failed. He died on March 14. The autopsy said the cause was dystrophic multiple organ failure.
Findings included an extremely muscular body with almost no fat, a liver full of tumors, very small testicles, and an enlarged heart weighing about 636 grams. His electrolytes were out of balance, with very high potassium. About 20 drugs were found in his system, with possible acute toxicity from a stimulant.
Arnold Schwarzenegger sent a wreath to Münzer’s funeral in Styria, writing: "A last greeting to a friend."
