2-furoate—CoA ligase
2-Furoate—CoA ligase (EC 6.2.1.31) activates 2-furoate by attaching coenzyme A (CoA) to it, forming 2-furoyl-CoA. The reaction uses ATP and releases AMP and pyrophosphate (PPi):
ATP + 2-furoate + CoA → AMP + PPi + 2-furoyl-CoA.
This enzyme belongs to the ligase family, which forms carbon–sulfur bonds. Systematic name: 2-furoate:CoA ligase (AMP-forming). It is also known as 2-furoyl-CoA synthetase.
