William F. Jung
William Frederic Jung (born 1958) is a United States district judge for the Middle District of Florida. He assumed office on September 10, 2018, after being nominated by President Donald Trump to fill the seat vacated by Anne C. Conway.
Born in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Jung earned a BA from Vanderbilt University in 1980 and a JD from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1983, graduating summa cum laude and serving as editor-in-chief of the Illinois Law Review. He clerked for Judge Gerald Tjoflat (11th Circuit) and for Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist. He joined the Florida Bar in 1983.
Jung began his career as an associate at Carlton Fields, then served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida (1987–1990) and the Middle District of Florida (1990–1993). In 1993 he co-founded the Tampa law firm Jung & Sisco, focusing on white-collar defense and complex civil litigation. In 2017 he was inducted into Florida Trend Magazine’s Florida Legal Elite Hall of Fame and has published about 30 legal articles.
His district court nominations included a 2008 nomination by President George W. Bush and a 2016 nomination by President Barack Obama, both of which expired. Trump announced his intent to nominate Jung again in December 2017; after a Senate hearing in February 2018 and committee action, he was confirmed by the Senate in September 2018. He is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and is board-certified by the Florida Bar in criminal trial.
