Asa Branca: Um Sonho Brasileiro
Asa Branca: Um Sonho Brasileiro is a Brazilian drama film from 1981 directed by Djalma Limongi Batista. The story follows Antônio "Asa Branca" dos Reis, a football player who begins his career in the small interior town of Mariana do Sul in São Paulo and hopes to reach the FIFA World Cup.
Filming lasted about three months. The crew shot the opening scenes in São Paulo, then moved to Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, and finally filmed in Rio de Janeiro. The film was produced by Vera Roquette Pinto, with Embrafilme and Roberto Santos Produções Cinema do Século XX as production companies. It was written by Djalma Limongi Batista, with Gualter Limongi as director of photography, José Motta as editor, and Mario Velerio Zaccaro composing the music.
The movie premiered at the 1981 Brasília Film Festival. At the festival, Batista won Best Director and Edson Celulari won Best Actor, while Chagas won Best Supporting Actor. Batista and Celulari also won these same awards at the 10th Gramado Film Festival. The film received the Air France Award for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor, and it was entered into the 1982 Three Continents Festival. The language is Portuguese, and the film originates from Brazil.
