Fenwick, Connecticut
Fenwick is a very small borough in Old Saybrook, Middlesex County, Connecticut. It sits where the Connecticut River flows into Long Island Sound, on the river’s west side, with a cove separating it from Old Saybrook’s town center. As of 2020, Fenwick has 53 residents, making it the least populous borough in Connecticut.
Most of Fenwick is part of the Fenwick Historic District, a 195-acre area listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The district includes about 60 buildings and the Fenwick Golf Course. The homes are mainly early 20th-century Shingle Style, with some Queen Anne and Victorian houses. A notable building is St. Mary’s-By-the-Sea church at 30 Agawam Avenue.
Fenwick has two lighthouses: the Inner Light at Lynde Point on the peninsula and the Outer Light a short distance offshore, connected by a jetty and visible on Connecticut license plates.
The Fenwick Golf Course began in the late 1800s and is tied to the Stephen Potter Cup. Route 154 runs through the area and connects about 2.5 miles to Old Saybrook Center.
