Gilmerton railway station
Gilmerton railway station was in Gilmerton, a suburb near Edinburgh, Scotland. It was on the Edinburgh, Loanhead and Roslin Railway. The station opened on 23 July 1874 and stood on the east side of Station Road. It had one platform with a booking office and a waiting room.
During World War I, the station closed to passenger services on 1 January 1917, but workmen's trains continued. It reopened on 2 June 1919. To the south of the platform was a signal box that controlled access to a goods yard with two sidings and a goods dock. Passenger services ended on 1 May 1933, but goods traffic continued until 1 July 1959. The platform and building were demolished in 1976, and the sidings were removed in 1978. The station was originally built by the Edinburgh, Loanhead and Roslin Railway, later becoming part of the London and North Eastern Railway.
