Afrothismia is a genus of small, flowering plants that do not make their own food. Instead, they live underground and get nutrients from fungi in the soil (a lifestyle called myco-heterotrophy). They belong to the Burmanniaceae family in the Dioscoreales order and are native to tropical Africa. The genus was first described in 1906, and its type species is Afrothismia winkleri.
