Achates

In Greek and Roman mythology, Achates is the name of two different figures.

- Achates, a loyal companion of Aeneas in Virgil’s Aeneid.
- Achates, a Sicilian who came to Aristaeus to join Dionysus in his Indian campaign (mentioned by Nonnus in the Dionysiaca).

Saints named Achates:

- Achates of Thun (Achathus), a 1st-century Christian saint and companion of Saint Beatus of Thun.
- Acathius of Melitene (Acathes), a 3rd-century Christian bishop and saint.
