Abdillahi Mohammed Ahmed

Abdillahi Mohamed Ahmed, known as Qablan, was a Somali politician who lived from 1926 to 1993. He was born in Las Khorey, Somaliland, and moved to Aden at age five for schooling. He began working in business at thirteen and later became a branch manager for A. Besse and Co. in Bosaso.

In 1946, Abdillahi joined the Somali Youth League (SYL). He rose in politics and, after the 1960 elections, was elected to the Legislative Council representing Las Khorey. He also served as Secretary of State in the government of Abdirashid Shermarke and, from September 1964 to April 1966, as Secretary of Finance. He was the first Minister of National and Coordination (now Planning) in the government of Mohamed Ibrahim Igaal.

After the 1969 military takeover, he helped establish Somalia’s first National Drilling Company. Abdillahi Mohamed Ahmed died on March 14, 1993, in Bosaso.
