Tripp Phillips
Tripp Phillips is the tennis name of Owen Thomas Phillips III, a former American player born in August 1977 in Newport News, Virginia. A right-handed player, he turned professional in 2001 and later worked as an assistant coach for the UNC Tar Heels men’s tennis team.
Phillips played college tennis at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was an All-American in his senior year. He won two ATP doubles titles with partner Ashley Fisher: Tokyo in 2006 and Indianapolis in 2008. His career doubles record is 43–53, and his highest doubles ranking was No. 29 in October 2006. His best Grand Slam doubles result was the semifinals at the 2006 US Open. He also reached the second round of the Australian Open in 2007 and Wimbledon in 2006, with first-round exits at the French Open in 2006 and 2007.
In singles, Phillips played one ATP World Tour match in 2004 and reached a career-high ranking of No. 343. In mixed doubles, he won a title on the ITF circuit in China in 2004 and played Wimbledon mixed doubles in 2007.
Phillips is married to Laura Zuger.
