A. DeWade Langley
A. DeWade Langley was the director of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) from 1995 until his retirement in 2010. He began with OSBI in 1977 as a special agent in Lawton after starting his career in 1970 as an office deputy in Custer County. He later served as deputy inspector in Woodward (1980), Inspector (1984), and deputy director (1990) before becoming director.
As director, Langley led several major advances: the Statewide Intelligence Network, a Crime Scene Agent program, and new databases for DNA, firearms and tool marks, and digital images. The agency earned accreditation from the American Society of Crime Lab Directors (ASCLD Lab) and CALEA, and opened the $30 million Forensic Science Center in Edmond in 2008. He retired as director in 2010 and became chair and director of the School of Criminal Justice at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Langley was born in Custer County, Oklahoma, and lived in Oklahoma City. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and the Oklahoma Army National Guard. He earned a BS from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, an MS from Oklahoma State University, and a Doctor of Education in Applied Educational Studies from OSU. He also taught as an adjunct professor at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Parks and Recreation Management.
