Angeline Ndayishimiye
Angeline Ndayishimiye, born January 12, 1976, is the First Lady of Burundi, a role she has held since June 18, 2020. She is married to President Évariste Ndayishimiye and they have six children.
She started as a lieutenant in the military and left service in 2004. She then worked at SOBUGEA, eventually becoming Administrative and Financial Director, with a one-year break at Air Burundi. In 2017 she founded Femmes Intwari to promote democratic peace, and in 2019 she started Umugiraneza to help poorer people, especially children and widows, with health care, jobs, education and training.
In May 2023 she was elected president of the Africa First Ladies' Peace Mission, and in July 2023 she received the United Nations Population Award. She works with Merck on campaigns like More than a Mother to reduce stigma around infertility, and she attended Burundi’s malaria vaccination launch in 2025. Angeline and her husband have six children.
