8th Wonder (album)
8th Wonder is the Sugarhill Gang's second studio album. It was released on June 25, 1981, and was recorded during 1980–1981. The album runs 44 minutes and 24 seconds and was released on Sugar Hill Records. Producers were Sylvia Robinson and James Cullimore.
Singles include "8th Wonder" (1980) and "Apache" (November 1981). The album features a guest appearance by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five on the track "Showdown."
Though not as successful as the group’s first album, 8th Wonder reached No. 66 on Billboard's Soul LPs chart on January 16, 1982.
Critical notes were mixed: The Globe and Mail said it doesn’t bring many new ideas and sticks to celebrating the Sugarhill Gang, while Robert Christgau called the singing tracks functional dance music with few interesting words.
