86th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment
The 86th Illinois Volunteer Infantry was a unit in the Union Army during the American Civil War. It was organized in Peoria, Illinois, and entered service on August 27, 1862. The regiment was mustered out on June 6, 1865 and discharged in Chicago on June 21, 1865.
Engagements included Perryville, Stones River, Chickamauga, the Siege of Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, the Siege of Atlanta, Jonesboro, and Bentonville.
Casualties: 3 officers and 73 enlisted men killed or died of wounds; 1 officer and 93 enlisted men died of disease. Total fatalities: 175.
