36th Bomber Aviation Division
36th Bomber Aviation Division (1984–1992)
The 36th Bomber Aviation Division was a unit of the Soviet Air Force in the 1980s and early 1990s. It began in August 1984 as the 36th Fighter-Bomber Aviation Division, activated at Bolshoye Shiraki in the Transcaucasian Military District. Its initial regiments were the 34th Fighter-Bomber Aviation Regiment, the 168th Guards Fighter-Bomber Aviation Regiment, and the 976th Fighter-Bomber Aviation Regiment.
In 1988, the division was renamed the 36th Bomber Aviation Division and came under the 34th Air Army. Its regiments were converted to bomber aviation units. The 143rd Bomber Aviation Regiment joined the division in 1989.
The division was based in Bolshoye Shiraki, in the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic, and it was disbanded in 1992.
