Al-Shorta's 2022–23 season was their 49th in the Iraqi Premier League. They played at Al-Shaab Stadium and were led by president Abdul-Halim Fahem. Moamen Soliman started as head coach, but in March he was dismissed after a Baghdad Derby loss to Al-Zawraa. His assistant, Ahmed Salah, took over and guided the team to the league title for the second straight year, sealing it with a 3–0 win at Naft Maysan in the penultimate round.

The season began by winning the Iraqi Super Cup 1–0 against Al-Karkh. In the Iraqi Premier League they improved after a slow start and ultimately became champions.

In the Iraq FA Cup, Al-Shorta reached the Round of 16 but were eliminated by Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya on penalties after a 1–1 draw.

In the Arab Club Champions Cup, they reached the semi-finals, defeating Club Sfaxien 1–0 and Al-Sadd 4–2 before losing to Al-Nassr on a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty.

Top scorers: Alaa Abdul-Zahra with 12 league goals; 13 in all competitions, tied with Ahmed Farhan.
