Lightning's 2021 season: quick recap

Lightning's second season saw them compete in two tournaments: the 50-over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy (RHFT) and the new Twenty20 competition, the Charlotte Edwards Cup (CEC).

- RHFT: Lightning finished 4th in Group B, with 3 wins from 7 matches. Kathryn Bryce was the top run-scorer for the team with 353 runs, while Kirstie Gordon took the most wickets with 16. Bryce and Gordon also made the most catches (5 each). Abigail Freeborn had 5 wicket-keeping dismissals.

- CEC: In the Charlotte Edwards Cup, Lightning finished bottom of Group A, losing all six matches. Abigail Freeborn led the side with 161 runs. Sonia Odedra and Sophie Munro were the leading wicket-takers for the team with 6 each. Freeborn also had 5 wicket-keeping dismissals.

- Leadership and coaches: The team was captained by Kathryn Bryce and coached by Rob Taylor.

- Home venues: Lightning played across the East Midlands at Trent Bridge, Grace Road, the County Ground, Derby, the Haslegrave Ground, and Kibworth Cricket Club Ground.

- Squad updates: The 18-player squad was announced on 28 May 2021. During the season, Ella Claridge and Josie Groves were promoted from the Academy and played their first senior matches on 28 August and 10 September, respectively.
