2020–21 Dynamo Dresden season
Dynamo Dresden's 2020–21 season was their 71st in competitive football. They played at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion in Dresden, Saxony. After finishing 18th in 2019–20, they were relegated from the 2. Bundesliga to the 3. Liga for 2020–21. The club’s chairman was Holger Scholze. Markus Kauczinski started the season as manager, but he was sacked on 25 April 2021 and replaced by Alexander Schmidt.
The 3. Liga season began later than planned, on 18 September 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dynamo had a strong start but later hit a rough patch, including a 0–3 defeat to SV Darmstadt 98 in the second round of the DFB-Pokal on 22 December 2020. They also faced disruptions from COVID-19 outbreaks, leading to quarantines and rescheduled matches. A goalless draw with KFC Uerdingen 05 in round 14 briefly put them at the top of the table.
After Kauczinski was dismissed, Schmidt took over on 25 April and immediately steadied the team, winning five of the remaining six games and not conceding a goal in those matches. Dynamo Dresden finished first in the 3. Liga, four points ahead of Hansa Rostock, and were promoted back to the 2. Bundesliga.
Top scorer: Christoph Daferner with 12 league goals (13 in all competitions).
