The 2016–17 season was Delfino Pescara 1936’s first season back in Serie A since they were relegated in 2013. The team struggled throughout the campaign and finished 20th in the league with 18 points (three wins, one awarded) and 81 goals conceded. They were eliminated from the Coppa Italia in the fourth round by Atalanta. The club went through three managers: Massimo Oddo until 14 February 2017, caretaker Luciano Zauri from 14 to 17 February 2017, and Zdeněk Zeman from 17 February 2017 onward. Home matches were played at Stadio Adriatico – Giovanni Cornacchia. Gianluca Caprari was the top scorer with 9 goals in all competitions. The highest home attendance was 20,088 against Inter on 11 September 2016, and the average home league attendance was 13,543.
