T. F. Green Airport station
T. F. Green Airport station is a train and intermodal facility in Warwick, Rhode Island, located next to T. F. Green Airport on the Northeast Corridor. It extends MBTA Commuter Rail service on the Providence/Stoughton Line from Boston, giving riders access to Providence and Boston and connections to the airport. The station opened on December 6, 2010, with MBTA service expanding in 2011 and the line being extended to Wickford Junction in 2012.
What you’ll find there
- The station has one side platform serving three tracks.
- A four‑level, large parking garage (thousands of spaces) supports park‑and‑ride and airport access; there’s also an elevated skywalk, the Interlink, about 1,250 feet long, that connects the station to the airport terminals.
- Regular MBTA service runs on weekdays; there are no regular weekend MBTA trains to the station. Special Sunday trains to Foxboro for New England Patriots games ran from 2012 to 2018 and were cut back in 2019.
Ridership and use
- Early ridership was modest: about 150–200 inbound riders per day in 2012. By 2017 total ridership (boardings and alightings) was around 414 daily, and 2018 saw about 227 daily boardings.
- The station primarily serves local commuters to Providence and Boston and helps travelers reach the airport. It’s also possible to link from T. F. Green to Logan International Airport via subway and commuter rail, though that involves multiple transfers.
Amtrak and future plans
- Amtrak does not stop here because the track that serves the platform isn’t electrified.
- Long‑term plans have looked at adding tracks, electrification, and possibly Amtrak or other intercity service. In 2019, a federal grant supported studies to evaluate Northeast Regional trains stopping at the station.
