2016 West Texas A&M Buffaloes football team
The 2016 West Texas A&M Buffaloes football team represented West Texas A&M University in the 2016 NCAA Division II season as a member of the Lone Star Conference. Led by head coach Mike Nesbitt in his fourth season, the Buffaloes played their home games at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Canyon, Texas. They finished 6–5 overall and 5–4 in the Lone Star Conference. The offense used an Air Raid scheme, and the defense ran a base 3–4 with Thomas Rocco as defensive coordinator in his first year. The Lone Star Conference media poll predicted WT would finish fourth. A Sept. 17, 2016 game was postponed to the following morning due to severe weather in Ector County. On November 18, athletic director Michael McBroom announced that Nesbitt had been fired, leaving WT with a 25–17 record over four seasons.
