Mueang Yala district
Mueang Yala is the capital district (amphoe mueang) of Yala province in southern Thailand. The district seat is in the Sateng Subdistrict. It borders Khok Pho, Mae Lan, and Yarang in Pattani Province to the north; Raman, Krong Pinang, and Yaha in Yala Province to the east and south; and Saba Yoi in Songkhla Province to the west. The Pattani River runs through the town of Yala.
History: The area was originally called Mueang district. In 1917 it was renamed Sateng to share the name with its central sub-district, and in 1938 it was renamed Mueang Yala to match the common naming for province capitals. In 2015, five sub-districts were planned to split off to form a new Lam Mai District.
Administration: The district is divided into 14 tambons (sub-districts) and 80 mubans (villages). Some tambons have been moved to form Krong Pinang District.
