KNCQ, known as Q-97, is a commercial country music radio station on 97.3 FM in Weaverville, California. It has aired country music since October 29, 1985. The station's powerful signal covers parts of 17 counties in California and Oregon, from Medford to Sacramento. It was built by Craig McCarthy and his family as McCarthy Wireless, and its original studios were in Redding before moving to North Redding around 1990. KNCQ is a Class C station, licensed by the FCC, with an effective radiated power of 28,000 watts and a very high transmitter, giving a large coverage area. It is owned by Results Radio of Redding, LLC, part of Results Radio which operates 13 California stations. Its sister stations in the Redding area are KESR, KEWB, KHRD, and KKXS. The format today is Today's Country Variety, featuring current country hits from artists like Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Taylor Swift.
