2009 Vegalta Sendai season

In 2009, Vegalta Sendai played in Japan’s J2 League (second division). Managed by Makoto Teguramori and chaired by Shirahata Yoichi, they played at Yurtec Stadium Sendai. They finished 1st with 106 points, the most ever by a J2 team, earning promotion to J1 for 2010. In the Emperor’s Cup, they reached the semi-finals before losing to Gamba Osaka. The top scorer was Marcelo Soares, with 16 league goals.
