2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games

The 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games were the 10th edition and were held in Boise, Idaho, from February 7 to February 13, 2009. About 2,500 athletes from more than 100 countries competed. The opening ceremony was hosted by Idaho Governor Butch Otter and Lori Otter, with most events taking place at the Idaho Center. Dignitaries from around the world attended, including actors and athletes. On February 12, Vice President Joe Biden presented awards and announced Kareem Dale as special assistant to the president for disability policy. The games showcased athletes’ talents and brought people together for a week of sports and celebration.
