1999 Illinois Fighting Illini football team
The 1999 Illinois Fighting Illini football team represented the University of Illinois in the Big Ten. In Ron Turner’s third year as head coach, the Illini finished 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the Big Ten, tying for sixth place. They outscored opponents 325 to 252. Illinois won the MicronPC Bowl, beating Virginia 63-21. They were ranked No. 25 in the Coaches poll and No. 24 in the AP poll. They were the first team in 50 years to win road games at Michigan and Ohio State in the same season. The offense ran a pro-style scheme and the defense used a 4-3 base under Tim Kish. Captains were Ray Redziniak, Danny Clark, Neil Rackers, and Steve Havard. The most valuable player was quarterback Kurt Kittner (2,448 passing yards, 22 TDs). Steve Havard led with 715 rushing yards, and Michael Dean had 43 receptions for 566 yards. Home games were at Memorial Stadium in Champaign.
