Chiang Mai Main Line is a major railway on Thailand’s Northern Line. It runs from Hua Lamphong in Bangkok to Chiang Mai in the north, passing through many provinces. The line is operated by the State Railway of Thailand and is the second longest in the country after Su-ngai Kolok. It is about 751 kilometers long, uses metre-gauge tracks, and is mostly a single track with 126 stations along the route. A well-known service on this line is the Nakhon Phing Express, a first-class train. The line opened in 1896. Because of several accidents in recent years, renovation work started in late 2013 and the line reopened on 2 December 2013.
