1997 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship
The ninth edition of the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship was held in Doha, Qatar, from September 3 to 11, 1997. Seventeen teams competed in two venues in Doha. The tournament was organized by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) with the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA). Teams were seeded based on their finish at the 1995 championship, with Qatar as the host.
Champions: China (2nd title)
Runners-up: Japan
Third place: Australia
Fourth place: Chinese Taipei
Participating teams included Qatar (host), Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Australia (seeded 5th in 1995), Uzbekistan, Philippines, Chinese Taipei (seeded 6th), Bahrain, Macau, Thailand (seeded 7th), Pakistan, India, and the United Arab Emirates, among others.
