The 1991 Champion Spark Plug 400 was the 23rd running of the event and the 19th race of the 1991 NASCAR Winston Cup Series. It took place on Sunday, August 18, 1991, at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan, a two-mile, D-shaped oval. The 200-lap race covered 400 miles and was watched by about 90,000 fans.

Dale Jarrett, driving the No. 21 for Wood Brothers Racing, won in a dramatic finish, passing Davey Allison on the final lap by eight inches to earn his first career Winston Cup victory and his only win of the season. Rusty Wallace finished third for Penske Racing South. Alan Kulwicki won the pole with a lap of 41.515 seconds and an average speed of 173.431 mph. Davey Allison led the most laps, with 61.

The race was broadcast on ESPN with announcers Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett, and Benny Parsons, and on MRN radio. Qualifying was held in two rounds: the first round on Friday guaranteed the top 20 starters, while those not in the top 20 could attempt to qualify again in the second round on Saturday. Donny Paul failed to qualify.
