1983–84 Memphis State Tigers men's basketball

The Memphis State Tigers represented Memphis State University in the Metro Conference during the 1983–84 season. They won both the Metro Conference regular-season title and the Metro Conference tournament, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. As the No. 6 seed in the Midwest region, Memphis State defeated Oral Roberts in the first round and then upset No. 3 seed Purdue to reach the Sweet Sixteen for the third straight year. They were finally eliminated by Houston, 78–71. The Tigers finished with a 26–7 record overall and 11–3 in the Metro Conference.

Coaching and venue: Head coach Dana Kirk (fifth season), with assistant coaches Larry Finch and Lee Fowler. Home games were played at the Mid-South Coliseum. The team was ranked No. 16 in both the coaches’ poll and the AP poll.

Note: The NCAA tournament results were later vacated.
