The 1977 Northern Arizona Lumberjacks football team represented Northern Arizona University in the Big Sky Conference during the 1977 NCAA Division II season. In his third year as head coach, Joe Salem led the Lumberjacks to a 9–3 record, 5–1 in the Big Sky, finishing second in the conference. They outscored opponents 324 to 204.

The team opened the season at Lumberjack Stadium on September 3 and later moved to the new NAU Ensphere, which was renamed the Walkup Skydome, in Flagstaff. The first game in the new stadium was on September 17 against Montana.

Northern Arizona earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Playoffs but lost in the first round to Jacksonville State, 0–34.

There was a scheduling quirk: Northern Arizona did not play Idaho, so a non-conference game counted in the standings for each team. Idaho lost to Pacific, while NAU defeated Cal State Fullerton.
