The 1975 Chatham Cup was New Zealand’s 48th nationwide knockout football competition. The early rounds ran in three regions (northern, central, southern), with National League teams getting byes to the later stages. A total of 123 teams took part. Some sources number the rounds differently; this version starts with the regional qualifiers.

Lower Hutt City, a small club, impressed by reaching the quarter-finals before losing to the eventual winners, Christchurch United.

Lion Breweries took over sponsorship from Gillette that year, so the Cup was known as the Lion Chatham Cup for the rest of the decade.

The final was at Newmarket Park, Auckland, on 13 September 1975. Blockhouse Bay led 2-0 early via Mike Farac and Colin Shaw. Norman Moran pulled one back, then Gary Lake turned a cross into his own net to level the score at 2-2. In extra time Christchurch United pressed and scored through Kevin Mulgrew and substitute Mark McNaughton to win. Christchurch United claimed their third Chatham Cup title and became only the second team to win both the Chatham Cup and the National League in the same season.
