1971 NCAA College Division basketball tournament

The 1971 NCAA College Division basketball tournament featured 32 teams in a single-elimination format to crown the national champion of NCAA College Division men’s basketball for the 1970–71 season. The Evansville Purple Aces won the title, their fifth, by defeating the Old Dominion Monarchs in the final. Don Buse of Evansville was named the Most Outstanding Player.

Semifinalists were Southwestern Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers; Southwestern Louisiana’s Final Four appearance was later vacated due to NCAA rules violations. The winning coach was Arad McCutchan (his fifth title). The tournament drew a total attendance of 35,812.

Games were played at multiple venues across the country, including Pershing Arena (Evansville), Bollman Center (Cheyney State College), Norfolk Scope (Norfolk), Memorial Fieldhouse (Puget Sound), Andrew Laska Gymnasium (Assumption College), Blackham Coliseum (Southwestern Louisiana), and Roberts Municipal Stadium (Evansville).
