1971 English cricket season
The 1971 English cricket season saw Surrey win the County Championship. England hosted Pakistan in the first half of the season; after two draws, England won the final Test at Headingley by 25 runs to take the series 1–0. In the second half, India toured England and, after two drawn Tests at Lord’s and Old Trafford, beat England in the final Test at The Oval by four wickets to win the series 1–0 — India’s first Test victory on English soil. It was a huge surprise because England, fresh from winning the Ashes in Australia, were considered very strong.
