Zac Bierk
Zac Bierk, born September 17, 1976 in Peterborough, Ontario, is a Canadian former NHL goalie. He is 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 186 pounds, and catches left. He played in the NHL for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Minnesota Wild, and Phoenix Coyotes from 1997 to 2004, appearing in 47 games. drafted by the Lightning in 1995, 212th overall, Bierk spent four seasons with the Peterborough Petes in the OHL, reaching the Memorial Cup final in 1996 and earning top honors in 1997 (OHL goaltender of the year, Leo Lalonde trophy, and All-Star selections). His first NHL win came March 30, 1998 against the New York Rangers. On January 8, 2003, he and Michael Leighton both earned their first NHL shutouts in a 0–0 tie between the Coyotes and Blackhawks. His career totals include 47 games, a 9–20–5 record, a 3.18 GAA, a .901 save percentage, 1 shutout, 1 assist, and 6 penalty minutes. After retiring, Bierk became a goalie coach and co-founded Armour Goaltending in the Greater Toronto Area. He worked as a goalie consultant for the Oshawa Generals, helping them win the Memorial Cup in 2015, and later returned to the Coyotes organization as a goaltending development coach and the Tucson Roadrunners’ goalie coach. He joined the Ottawa Senators as their goaltending coach in 2021 and moved to scouting duties in 2024; he now serves as the Senators’ Goaltending Advisor. Bierk is the son of artist David Bierk and the brother of musician and actor Sebastian Bach, and he is one of eight children.
