1964 NCAA men's ice hockey tournament
The 1964 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament capped the 1963–64 season as the 17th NCAA hockey championship. It took place March 19–21, 1964, at the University of Denver Arena in Denver, Colorado. Four teams qualified: Michigan Wolverines, Denver Pioneers, Rensselaer Engineers, and Providence Friars. The ECAC champion and the WCHA champion earned automatic bids, with two at-large bids (one eastern and one western) awarded based on tournament finish and regular-season results. Seeds were arranged so the ECAC champion was the top eastern seed and the WCHA champion the top western seed; the second eastern seed faced the top western seed, and vice versa. The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Denver Pioneers 6–3 in the championship game to claim their seventh national title. Denver made its fifth title-game appearance. The other semifinalists were Rensselaer Engineers (their fourth Frozen Four) and Providence Friars (their first Frozen Four). Michigan's coach Al Renfrew earned his first title, and Bob Gray of Michigan was named the Most Outstanding Player. Attendance for the tournament was 16,278.
