1946 Florida N&I Lions football team
The 1946 Florida N&I Lions football team, also known as Florida Normal, represented Florida Normal and Industrial Memorial College (now Florida Memorial University) in the Southeastern Athletic Conference during the 1946 season. Led by head coach F. W. Hinson, they finished 6–3–1. The Lions posted a 101-point win over Albany State and lost to Delaware State by one point, 6–7, in the Flower Bowl on January 1, 1947. This was Florida’s first appearance in a New Year’s Day bowl game. Joe Carter, the team’s quarterback, led the nation in scoring with 152 points (21 touchdowns and 25 extra points). Carter and Danly Smith (tackle) were named to the 1946 All-Southeast Conference team.
