Kenzan

A kenzan, or spiky frog, is a tool used in ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) to fix flowers in a container. It has a heavy base, usually lead, with many upright needles (often brass) that hold the stems in place. The name kenzan means "sword mountain." It’s commonly used in the Moribana style of ikebana.

Another type of holder, without spikes but with holes, is called shippo-dome. It’s used by the Saga Go-ryū school and others. Shippo-dome can be made from pottery, metal, plastic, or glass.
