1928 Swedish general election
General elections were held in Sweden from 15 to 21 September 1928 to choose all 230 seats in the Riksdag’s Second Chamber. The Social Democratic Party, led by Per Albin Hansson, remained the largest party, winning 90 seats (about 37% of the vote). The General Electoral League, led by Arvid Lindman, won 73 seats (about 29%). The Free-minded National Association, led by Carl Gustaf Ekman, took 28 seats (about 13%). The Farmers’ League won 27 seats (about 11%). The Communist Party gained 8 seats (about 6%). The Liberal Party won 4 seats (about 3%). After the election Arvid Lindman became Prime Minister, replacing Carl Gustaf Ekman. The contest was nicknamed the "Cossack election" because of the sharp, aggressive rhetoric used by both sides.
