Ixi lang is a live-coding programming language for making music in real time. It’s designed to be simple and expressive, so you can improvise with code during performances or in the studio. Like other live-coding tools, it uses compact commands to control sounds and rhythms, helping you create music quickly and experiment with structure.

In 2015, ixi lang was showcased at the Loop summit by Ableton and was praised as a different way to make music. As one user put it, you can make beats and melodies almost immediately by typing a sound name, drawing your own bars, and typing numbers for notes. With a few common commands, you can freely modulate and change parts using your own samples.

Ixi lang is used worldwide by groups and artists in places like Brazil, the UK, and Paris. It has influenced other live-coding projects such as Gibber, EarSketch, WulfCode, and Sonic Pi.
