1920–21 NHL season
The 1920–21 NHL season was the league’s fourth season. Four teams played 24 games each in a split season. The Quebec franchise moved to Hamilton, Ontario, to become the Hamilton Tigers. Newsy Lalonde of the Montreal Canadiens was the top scorer.
In the split season, Ottawa Senators won the first half and the Toronto St. Patricks won the second half. The Ottawa Senators defeated the St. Patricks in a two-game total-goals playoff to win the O’Brien Cup as league champions.
Ottawa then moved on to compete for the Stanley Cup, defeating the Vancouver Millionaires of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association three games to two in a best-of-five series.
This season was the last to use a split schedule before the NHL changed its regular-season and playoff formats.
