1832 United States presidential election in New Jersey
The election ran from November 2 to December 5, 1832. New Jersey voters chose eight electors for the Electoral College. The main candidates were:
- Andrew Jackson (Democratic Party) of Tennessee, running with Martin Van Buren
- Henry Clay (National Republican) of Kentucky, running with John Sergeant
- William Wirt (Anti-Masonic Party)
Jackson won New Jersey by 0.76%. He got 23,826 votes (49.89%), while Clay got 23,466 votes (49.13%). Wirt also received votes. All eight electoral votes went to Jackson and Van Buren. This was the closest presidential election in New Jersey’s history.
